This is absolutely, beautifully PG. The build up of Sheri's loss of memory; the undying declaration of love from Thomas; her acceptance of everything she vaguely remembered. Very romantic.

ReplyDeleteI don't know, Donna. I wrote it for the same audience as Ella Enchanted. Isn't that a MG book or does it cross to YA? It doesn't feel like YA... it feels slightly younger, but I could be wrong.

ReplyDeleteWendy - love the story telling (lies) and that Sherri's stories become truth. Very tender and definitely has the stamp of your humor. I truly enjoyed the read. Fairy Tale all the way. :)

ReplyDeleteAs for MG, this scene by itself may not seem MG but taken together with the whole novel, it is MG. Sheri's voice, when not syrupy with about-to-be-kissed elixer, is young... but not young adult. IMO.
Lovely, m'dear! The horse's comments are a wonderful addition to the romance and the pacing is perfect!
ReplyDeleteSimon, it's a retelling of that story, but I've been close-mouthed about it because there aren't other retellings out there in this retelling-saturated market. I was hesitant to even post this because of that, but I think I'm just being weird about it.

ReplyDeleteOkay... so now that I've realized the length of this manuscript isn't a problem as a mid-grade, I'm all excited about it again. Di suggested I get some MG beta readers to help me polish it before I even think of querying on it. So, if any of you were serious about wanting to take a gander at the full thing... contact me at wendy at sparrow dot us I need a beta read for suitability as a MG and overall flow.

Okay, I seriously loved the horse jabbering and the castle allowing her to live because of the stained glass window stories, and the king changing things and her pretending to believe him. Well done. Cute.
