I'm a professional insomniac and hopeful writer. I write a lot. I sleep a little. Some of my books are exercises in creative writing and exorcising the demon words that keep me awake. Others--I'll try to get published so I won't feel so guilty about writing instead of cleaning.
I'm a mother to quirky children, wife to an uber geek, and my life is full of crazy. If you have questions or comments about B or T, OCD, or Autism, just ask or email me.
Otherwise this is my life as a writer and a struggling insomniac... wait. Scratch that... reverse it.
HEY! Peeps! This is going to become my personal blog and my writing/author blog will be on my website here: http://wendysparrow.com/
I'll be cross-posting initially but may switch over to keeping them separate.
This is absolutely, beautifully PG. The build up of Sheri's loss of memory; the undying declaration of love from Thomas; her acceptance of everything she vaguely remembered. Very romantic.
Not MG.
But beautiful. Star crossed lovers style. Intriguing enough to entice me into reading the full romance novel.
I don't know, Donna. I wrote it for the same audience as Ella Enchanted. Isn't that a MG book or does it cross to YA? It doesn't feel like YA... it feels slightly younger, but I could be wrong.
Wendy - love the story telling (lies) and that Sherri's stories become truth. Very tender and definitely has the stamp of your humor. I truly enjoyed the read. Fairy Tale all the way. :)
I love this story. Sweet, romantic, with adventure too. It's awesome.
As for MG, this scene by itself may not seem MG but taken together with the whole novel, it is MG. Sheri's voice, when not syrupy with about-to-be-kissed elixer, is young... but not young adult. IMO.
Simon, it's a retelling of that story, but I've been close-mouthed about it because there aren't other retellings out there in this retelling-saturated market. I was hesitant to even post this because of that, but I think I'm just being weird about it.
Okay... so now that I've realized the length of this manuscript isn't a problem as a mid-grade, I'm all excited about it again. Di suggested I get some MG beta readers to help me polish it before I even think of querying on it. So, if any of you were serious about wanting to take a gander at the full thing... contact me at wendy at sparrow dot us I need a beta read for suitability as a MG and overall flow.
I couldn't agree more with all of the adoring commenters. This is such an interesting story -- I'm not familiar with the one you are retelling, so, for me, it's like walking into a new world.
And you've written it so beautifully. Well done, my friend!
Okay, I seriously loved the horse jabbering and the castle allowing her to live because of the stained glass window stories, and the king changing things and her pretending to believe him. Well done. Cute.

..........dhole
*licks fingers* Now that was delicious. How do you come up with this stuff?
ReplyDeleteLovely and romantic. I adore the the fairy tale feel. Plus, I venture most writers can relate to Sherri. We, too, like to make up stories. :)
ReplyDeleteI want to read the rest!!
ReplyDeleteLovely! A story I want to read. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. So touching and romantic, and the prose is elegant. First true PG love scene I've read so far!

ReplyDeleteVery sweet and romantic. Love the fairy tale angle :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful story! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWow. Does this have a little bit of the Scheherezade story in it, as inspiration, perahps? I love the idea. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteNicely done, good lady! :)
Very cool Wendy. You definitely have a creative mind to come up with all of that. I'm very impressed!

Lovely, m'dear! The horse's comments are a wonderful addition to the romance and the pacing is perfect!
