I'm a professional insomniac and hopeful writer. I write a lot. I sleep a little. Some of my books are exercises in creative writing and exorcising the demon words that keep me awake. Others--I'll try to get published so I won't feel so guilty about writing instead of cleaning.
I'm a mother to quirky children, wife to an uber geek, and my life is full of crazy. If you have questions or comments about B or T, OCD, or Autism, just ask or email me.
Otherwise this is my life as a writer and a struggling insomniac... wait. Scratch that... reverse it.
HEY! Peeps! This is going to become my personal blog and my writing/author blog will be on my website here: http://wendysparrow.com/
I'll be cross-posting initially but may switch over to keeping them separate.
We're supposed to clean? Isn't that what husbands are for? Oh, and children. I specifically bred three minions to do my bidding. Of course, if I don't clean the house stays dirty. My minions just have no standards.
Yeah. No luck on the cleaning fairy or the minions over here either. I would gladly live in filth if it wasn't for the husband needing "clothes to wear" and the ability to "walk across the room without getting stabbed in the foot with Legos, is that so much to ask?" Whatever. Men. Pfft.
I have minions that are closer to onions. They sometimes are stinky and they make me cry sometimes.
Note to self-- Do not--ever again--eat your weight in strata. Let's see, it was 1/3 cheese, 1/3 eggs, 1/3 sourdough english muffins. None of those things should be eaten in massive quantities. Are you nuts? Clearly you are. It's the only explanation.
Cleaning after eating way too much strata = blah
Sigh. This is slow going. I'm taking a break for the next ten minutes before I go at it again.
I hate cleaning. I don't know if I mentioned that yet.
I just posted this strata recipe over in Diana's blog, so it seemed weird not to post it here. This is straight from my friend, Stephanie. (Everyone asked for the recipe.)
Here's the recipe:
10 eggs 3 cups milk 1/4 tsp fresh ground nutmeg (fresh makes a real difference) 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper 1/4 tsp course kosher salt 10 sourdough english muffins 1 small brick gruyere (in the specialty cheese section in Fred Meyer) 1 small brick extra sharp cheddar (I like Tillamook) White Cheddar (I used about 1/3 of a 1 lb brick, again Tillamook)
In a large bowl whisk eggs and milk until combined. whisk in spices. Cut the gruyere and extra sharp cheddar in half. Grate 1 half of each and set aside the other half. Grate 1/3 of white cheddar.
Grease a 10x13 pan. Split the english muffins in half and place in the pan bumpy side up. Spray with PAM. Top with grated cheeses. Put another layer of english muffins halves, bumpy side up. Spray with PAM. Pour egg mixture over the top. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
To bake: heat oven to 325. Cover strata with foil bake about 50-60 min. Remove foil. Grate remaining halves of gruyere and extra sharp cheddar. Sprinkle over strata and cook until cheese is melted.
I like the strata fairly dry but if you want it fluffier add more milk. Enjoy. We make this for nearly every occasion. It also makes good leftovers. I recommend reheating in the oven not the microwave:)
I must be mental or something, because I love cleaning. Although, it probably stems from an obsession with things being clean and not actually having to scrub anything myself.
The major problem I have is if things are dirty, I have trouble writing (most days). So I have to get that stuff out of the way first...and that's where my pain starts. :-\
Sorry :( I hate cleaning too. My apartment is spider-land and I have to vacuum practically every week to keep the webs away. It sucks but I'd rather clean than sit in a pile of cobwebs and dust. Turn on some loud music and dance while you work! That helps me sometimes :)
SJDuvall, If you like cleaning, I have a whole big house that will just thrill you to pieces. Its a 1906 Sears and Roebuck Kit House and it can collect dust faster than anything I've ever seen. If you like, we could throw in some clutter, just for good measure.
Wendy, Just in case SJ chooses not to take me up on my offer, could you send your cleaning fairy over to my house for a nice, loooooooooong visit please? ~ Yaya Yaya's Home
Hi Wendy, I just read your profile and I just wanted you to know that you are not alone among the sleep-deprived. I, too, have difficulty sleeping, sometimes staying awake for days on end. I wish I could offer some great words of wisdome, but my thinker has run dry in the wisdom department. Good luck in getting some sleep.
I have felt the EXACT SAME WAY today. To the point that I'm angry. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI cleaned my bathtub today. It should be good for another 6 months... =P
ReplyDeleteP.S. I tagged you. Not sure if you've already gotten the questionnaire. Stop by my blog to see what I'm talking about.

ReplyDeleteIf you find one, would you pass her number on to me?
